Leo Dratfield Awards with the Flaherty Seminar

October 19th, 2007 · No Comments

Newark International Airport – Headed off to Toronto (tuesday oct 16th).   the Online News Association is having it’s 8th annual conference there and I am going as a representative of the Media Mobilizing Project – which won a Knight Foundation Challenge Grant.  Though the conference is geared toward mainstream journalists, which i’m not, it will be a good opportunity to find out what kind of innovative practices newsrooms are utilizing and meet folks from the industry.

Last night, Monday, October 15th, i attended the Leo Awards – a ceremony run by the Flaherty Seminar.  I was also there to shot photos for them.  Jon Alpert, longtime documentary filmmaker and director of Downtown Community Television (DCTV) won an award, as did Mable Haddock, formerly the director of the National Black Programming Consortium.  unfortunately she was not able to make it, but her college Jackie Jones, the current director of NBPC, spoke on her behalf. photos will be posted in a few days and linked to this  entry.
